Setting up your first workspace

Create your workspace, choose a chart of accounts, and configure GST.

Updated 2026-04-25

A workspace is the container for everything in Ledgable: your chart of accounts, transactions, contacts, invoices, and reports. Most sole traders need only one. Accountants will create one workspace per client.

Creating the workspace

  • Sign up at [ledgable.co/enter](https://ledgable.co/enter) with your email and a password.
  • On the welcome screen, choose whether the workspace is for a business you own or a client you serve.
  • Enter the workspace name (this can be your business name) and a short slug (used in URLs — letters, numbers, hyphens only).
  • Pick a workspace kind: business for an operating business, personal for personal-only books.
  • Choosing a chart of accounts

Ledgable seeds a default Australian SMB chart of accounts when you create a workspace. The defaults cover the standard codes (090 Bank, 100 Accounts Receivable, 200 Accounts Payable, 210 GST Collected, 215 GST Paid, 300 Owner's Equity, 400 Sales Revenue, 500 Cost of Goods Sold, plus standard expense accounts in the 600 range).

If you have an existing chart from another platform you want to bring across, you can:

  • Import from a CSV under Settings → Chart of Accounts → Import. The CSV needs columns for code, name, type (asset / liability / equity / revenue / expense), and tax_type.
  • Edit accounts inline to rename, add custom accounts, or hide ones you don't use.
  • You can change accounts later, but adding them upfront makes AI categorisation more accurate from day one.

    GST registration setting

If your business is GST-registered (revenue > $75k AUD/year, or voluntarily registered):

  • Go to Settings → Tax.
  • Toggle GST registered to On.
  • Enter your ABN (used on invoices) and BAS lodgement frequency (monthly / quarterly / annual).
  • Ledgable uses this setting to decide which transactions show GST suggestions and which BAS workflows are available.
