Ledgable vs QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks is a polished global product with an Australian edition. Ledgable is an Australian product. Here is what that difference is actually worth — and where it is not enough.

The short answer

Should you move from QuickBooks to Ledgable?

We would rather you stayed where you are than moved and regretted it, so here is both sides first.

Switch to Ledgable if
  • You trade only in Australia and want the local obligations handled natively rather than by a regional edition — GST codes, BAS labels, ABA files, STP Phase 2, Payday Super deadlines in business days.
  • You would rather payroll were part of your accounting software than a separate add-on through a partner.
  • You want AI that posts to the ledger, not just summarises it — with a 24-hour undo on every write action.
  • You want your data hosted in Australia. Ledgable's application, database and document processing all run in Sydney.
  • You run a practice or several entities and want multi-client tools included rather than a second subscription.
Stay on QuickBooks if
  • You operate in more than one country. Ledgable is Australia-only; QuickBooks is not.
  • You need direct ATO lodgement from inside the software today.
  • You rely on a specific app integration from Intuit's marketplace.
  • You need the depth of QuickBooks' custom reporting or its higher multi-user tiers.
  • You have already invested in QuickBooks-specific workflows and processes that work. Working software is worth a lot.
Credit where it is due

What QuickBooks does well

QuickBooks Online is the global heavyweight, and the product is polished. Its Australian edition covers GST and BAS, and Intuit has been shipping AI features hard. Its reporting and its multi-user tiers are mature in a way a young product's are not.

Pricing

What each one costs

Both tables show the standard ongoing price, not an introductory discount. QuickBooks figures are quoted from QuickBooks Online's own pricing page on the date shown below — check their page before you decide, because software pricing moves.

Where we are different

What Ledgable does that the incumbents do not

AI that writes to your books - and can be undone

Ledge AI does not just suggest a category; on Pro and Business it can create the invoice or post the transaction for you. Every AI write action lands on an undo list for 24 hours, so letting the AI act is a reversible decision rather than a leap of faith.

Practice tools in the product, not a separate subscription

Multi-client dashboard, engagement and task tracking, client onboarding, review queues and practice billing are part of Ledgable. You do not buy a second product to manage a book of clients.

Priced for a small Australian business

Free is $0 forever. Pro is $29/month and Business is $79/month, AUD, and AI is included on every plan rather than metered per action.

Australian from the schema up

ABN lookup against the ABR at signup, GST and BAS field mapping, STP Phase 2 payroll, Payday Super due dates from 1 July 2026, and data hosted in Sydney. Not a US product with an Australian tax pack bolted on.

Where we are behind

What Ledgable does not do yet

This list is here because a comparison page without one is not worth reading. If any of these matter to your business, the incumbent is the better answer today and we would rather you knew now.

Direct lodgement with the ATO is not live

Ledgable prepares BAS and STP data and exports it, but you lodge through your existing channel or your agent. Direct submission needs Digital Service Provider registration, and it is on the Business tier roadmap rather than in the product today.

The app marketplace is small

Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks each have hundreds of third-party integrations. If your business depends on a specific point-of-sale, e-commerce or job-management app, check that Ledgable connects to it before you move.

Inventory is basic

Ledgable tracks items and prices. It is not a stock-control system with multiple warehouses and landed costs. If you run real inventory depth, MYOB AccountRight is the better fit and we would rather tell you now.

Every accountant already knows the incumbents

Your bookkeeper has used Xero for a decade. Ledgable is new to them. We give accountants a free practice workspace and a revenue share to make that worth their time, but the familiarity gap is real.

Migration

Moving your QuickBooks data across

Ledgable has a guided QuickBooks importer that connects through QuickBooks's own authorisation screen. You never hand over a password, and the connection is used once for the migration rather than kept open.

  1. 1Start the QuickBooks importer and authorise Ledgable in Intuit's own consent screen.
  2. 2Ledgable pulls your chart of accounts, customers, suppliers and balances through the QuickBooks API.
  3. 3Review the proposed account mapping and the import preview.
  4. 4Commit. Opening balances post as a dated journal so you can reconcile against your last QuickBooks trial balance.

Read the full switching guide — what to do before you move, how to check the numbers tie back, and when to run both systems in parallel.

Common questions

Ledgable and QuickBooks

We do not quote a figure, deliberately. Intuit's Australian pricing table is rendered in the browser and served no readable prices when we checked on 27 September 2026, and we will not repeat a number from a third-party blog as though it were the vendor's. Check Intuit's pricing page for the current rate, and remember to look past the introductory discount.
Yes, in the sense that matters. QuickBooks Online has an Australian edition that handles GST and BAS properly. Ledgable was built for Australia from the schema up: ABN lookup against the ABR at signup, BAS field mapping, STP Phase 2 payroll, Payday Super deadlines in business days from 1 July 2026, ABA file export, and data hosted in Sydney. QuickBooks also outsources Australian payroll to a partner; ours is in the product.
Intuit states that QuickBooks Payroll, powered by Employment Hero, can be added to all QuickBooks Online plans at additional cost. So payroll is an add-on and a separate product relationship. Ledgable includes payroll in the plan price - up to 5 employees on Pro, up to 50 on Business.
Yes. Ledgable's QuickBooks importer connects through Intuit's own consent screen and pulls your chart of accounts, customers, suppliers and balances through the QuickBooks API. You review the proposed account mapping and an import preview before anything posts, and opening balances land as a dated journal so you can reconcile against your last QuickBooks trial balance.
Its reporting and its multi-user tiers are more mature, its app ecosystem is far larger, and Intuit has more people shipping features than we do. It also handles multi-country businesses in a way a single-country product does not. If you operate outside Australia, QuickBooks is the more sensible answer - Ledgable is Australia-only today.
Ask them first. We give accounting practices a free workspace, practice tools and a revenue share, which makes it worth their time to learn - but their familiarity with QuickBooks is worth real money to you in reduced fees. If they are unwilling, that is a legitimate reason to stay.
