Ledgable vs Xero
Xero is the default in Australia for good reasons. Here is where Ledgable is genuinely better, where Xero still wins, and what moving actually involves.
Should you move from Xero to Ledgable?
We would rather you stayed where you are than moved and regretted it, so here is both sides first.
- Xero's Australian plans step up by the number of people you pay. Ledgable's Pro covers up to 5 employees on one plan price.
- You want AI that does the work rather than suggesting it. On Pro and Business, Ledge AI can create invoices and post transactions — and every AI write action sits on an undo list for 24 hours.
- You run a practice or multiple entities. Multi-client dashboards, review queues, engagements and practice billing are in the product, not a separate subscription.
- You want receipt capture and expense handling included rather than as a separately licensed add-on.
- You are an accountant who would like to earn a recurring share of client spend rather than a badge.
- You need to lodge BAS or STP directly from your software today. Xero does this; Ledgable prepares and exports, and direct lodgement is roadmap, not product.
- You depend on a specific third-party app — a point-of-sale, a job-management tool, an e-commerce connector. Xero's marketplace is orders of magnitude larger than ours.
- You run real inventory with multiple locations, landed costs or assemblies.
- Your accountant works exclusively in Xero and is not willing to learn another tool. That is a legitimate reason to stay.
- You are mid-audit, mid-year or mid-anything. Migrate at a clean period boundary or not at all.
What Xero does well
Xero is the most widely used accounting platform in Australia and it earns that position. The app ecosystem is enormous, nearly every Australian bookkeeper and accountant already knows it, and it has been lodging BAS and STP directly with the ATO for years. If you need a specific third-party integration, Xero probably has it and we probably do not.
What each one costs
Both tables show the standard ongoing price, not an introductory discount. Xero figures are quoted from Xero's own pricing page on the date shown below — check their page before you decide, because software pricing moves.
Ledgable
| Ledgable plan | Price | Payroll |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | Not included |
| Pro | $29/month | Up to 5 employees |
| Business | $79/month | Up to 50 employees |
All prices AUD, billed monthly. AI is included on every plan. GST may apply. No lock-in contracts.
Xero
| Xero plan | Price | Payroll |
|---|---|---|
| Ignite | Not publishedXero names Ignite in its Australian plan lineup but does not show a price for it on the pricing page we can read, so we do not quote one. Xero's Ignite page does state the plan is capped at 20 invoices, directing higher volumes to Grow. | Not statedNot stated on the Ignite plan page we read. |
| Grow | $78/monthStandard rate after the promotional period. | Payroll for 2 people |
| Comprehensive | $107/monthStandard rate after the promotional period. | Payroll for 5 people |

What Ledgable does that the incumbents do not
AI that writes to your books - and can be undone
Ledge AI does not just suggest a category; on Pro and Business it can create the invoice or post the transaction for you. Every AI write action lands on an undo list for 24 hours, so letting the AI act is a reversible decision rather than a leap of faith.
Practice tools in the product, not a separate subscription
Multi-client dashboard, engagement and task tracking, client onboarding, review queues and practice billing are part of Ledgable. You do not buy a second product to manage a book of clients.
Priced for a small Australian business
Free is $0 forever. Pro is $29/month and Business is $79/month, AUD, and AI is included on every plan rather than metered per action.
Australian from the schema up
ABN lookup against the ABR at signup, GST and BAS field mapping, STP Phase 2 payroll, Payday Super due dates from 1 July 2026, and data hosted in Sydney. Not a US product with an Australian tax pack bolted on.
What Ledgable does not do yet
This list is here because a comparison page without one is not worth reading. If any of these matter to your business, the incumbent is the better answer today and we would rather you knew now.
Direct lodgement with the ATO is not live
Ledgable prepares BAS and STP data and exports it, but you lodge through your existing channel or your agent. Direct submission needs Digital Service Provider registration, and it is on the Business tier roadmap rather than in the product today.
The app marketplace is small
Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks each have hundreds of third-party integrations. If your business depends on a specific point-of-sale, e-commerce or job-management app, check that Ledgable connects to it before you move.
Inventory is basic
Ledgable tracks items and prices. It is not a stock-control system with multiple warehouses and landed costs. If you run real inventory depth, MYOB AccountRight is the better fit and we would rather tell you now.
Every accountant already knows the incumbents
Your bookkeeper has used Xero for a decade. Ledgable is new to them. We give accountants a free practice workspace and a revenue share to make that worth their time, but the familiarity gap is real.
Moving your Xero data across
Ledgable has a guided Xero importer that works from your own CSV exports — no API connection, no adviser access, nothing for Xero to approve.
- In Xero, export your Chart of Accounts, Contacts and Trial Balance as CSV.
- Upload the files to Ledgable's Xero importer - no API connection or adviser access needed.
- Ledgable maps your Xero account codes to its chart of accounts and shows you the mapping before anything is posted.
- Review the preview, then commit. Opening balances post as a single dated journal so your trial balance ties back to Xero.
